...Dr. Kate Shannon, a researcher, reviewed a recent meta-analysis of data from 50 countries showing the damage caused by criminalization and the urgent need to move toward evidence-based approaches to reducing HIV risk among sex workers. Finally, Law Professor Azaza Ahmed summarized the recommendations laid out in the recent report, HIV and the Law: Risks, Rights & Health by the Global Commission on HIV and the Law (see 21 July Daily Summary for details). The report concludes that decriminalization of sex work is key to stopping the HIV epidemic and decreasing violence against sex workers perpetrated by both the state and clients.
