...New research published in the Lancet found decriminalising sex work would have the greatest effect on the course of the HIV epidemic of all the interventions modelled, averting between a third and 46% of HIV infections among sex workers and their clients in the next 10 years.

The research, led by Kate Shannon from the University of British Columbia, also found reducing sexual violence could cut HIV infection rates by about a fifth in both rich and poor countries, and that improving access to treatment could prevent around a third of HIV infections in low income settings.
