Dr. Lisa Maher's Forefront Lecture as part of BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Lecture Series

On Tuesday October 29, 2013 the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS was pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Lisa Maher, titled "Prevention as punishment: Impact of legislative and policy changes designed to prevent human trafficking and sexual exploitation on female sex workers in Phnon Penh, Cambodia." Dr. Maher is a co-investigator and collaborator with GSHI, and joined us in Vancouver for one week.

Dr. Maher is a Program Head at the Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity, NHMRC Senior Research Fellow, and Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales. Her research focuses on the prevention of infectious disease in vulnerable populations, including people who inject drugs and female sex workers. She has expertise in both ethnographic and epidemiological methods and approaches, and, more recently, prevention trials. Professor Maher has worked extensively in North America, Asia, Australia and the Pacific.
